New Building of a Private Clinic with a

Laboratory

Hundekehlestraße 32, 14199 Berlin-Wilmersdorf

After the demolition of a one-storey apartment building in Berlin’s Wilmersdorf district, and in accordance with the City Planning Department guideline, a single-standing two-storey clinic was built, with one staggered-storey and one integrated apartment. One curtain wall was constructed, incorporating the established lines from the neighbouring development, so that the air space behind it can simulate a staggered storey.

According to the town planning upgrade scale of the residential environment, the small side privilege generates no distance space on its western and eastern side neighbouring premises. The lower area of the building serves as the access to the building and the clinic. The upper level is used for one Maisonette-apartment. It also has a basement storey, and storage/techniques/side/hobby-rooms for both the clinic and the private use, as well as a private double garage. One light-reflection water pool reinforces the lighting at the basement storey. Over the pool, a bridge provides an access to the garden in the south.

The vertical access is assured through one stretcher accessible elevator and one staircase, with which both the clinic and the Maisonette-Apartment are connected. One internal set of stairs inside the apartment links both storeys. For this purpose, 80 mm strong birch wood multiplex-planks are anchored in the central steel concrete partition wall. The birch wood also reflects the Finnish birch wood flooring of the whole building.

To minimize the sealing surface at the entrance area and the balcony, metal mesh is introduced for the flooring. The flooring of the ground floor and the staggered storey terrace area are of Bangkirai planks. We also put Anröchter Dolomite in the staircase, and on the top of the exterior railing. Due to the sandy soil condition, a concrete waterproof wall is not necessary. The walls are all plastered and the surface of the roof overhang is built with smooth concrete finishing. A gas condensing boiler unit provides all spaces with floor heating.
