Concept
The design of the urbanistic cubature gears to the lineal function of a sports hall. For sustainable and ecological reasons, the cubature should be as compact as possible. This compactness shall be achieved by direct junction to the entry of the existing school building with a main axis, the sports hall and the youth centre, although the existing visual orientation shall be maintained at any time. This will be provided by setting the intended clear height of the sports hall to a 7,00 m two-story level. Further more, the one-story-level secondary rooms, the main axis and the youth centre of the multi-purpose hall are affiliated in a z-shape.
Aside from the mentioned compactness, the perpetuation of an ideal multi-orientated access, and the maintenance of the playground and the green space are considered as vital aspects to us.
The inviting frankness of the generous obscurable window of the sports hall and the open design of the multi-purpose room and the youth centre, including indoor and outdoor seating, shall attract the neighbourhood to visit the building.
Materials
In order to comply with the limited budget, the sports hall has to be built in a fast and economic constructible steel construction with sandwich panels. By observing energy-saving prescriptions, the secondary rooms, the main axis of access and the youth centre inside of the solid building facing the street will be clinkered. The opposite rearward walls are additionally plastered.
The generously inviting and obscurable window glazing can be constructed as point mounted glass skin or, as well as at the youth centre, as light-metal/plywood mullion-transom system, which is depending on the budget. The Floors of the storage areas will be adapted to the particular usage of each room.
